Questions about extracurriular timing

I am about 1/3 of the way through a semester long internship for a city commissioner. I am definitely going to complete the full 15 weeks and was just wondering how to list this in the extracurricular section. This is for a spring transfer app and I am submitting it this weekend.

One reason I ask is that my prof recommendation mentions that I am about to be starting it (he asked me questions for writing the rec over a month ago, before I actually started), and that makes it obvious I haven't done the full time yet. Would I be wrong to list it as 15 weeks? I feel both ways are a little misleading in that one I haven't done that long just yet, and the other doesn't tell them what I am actually doing. If I had to list it as 5 or 6 weeks, should I make a note that I am doing a 15 week internship in the additional information section?

Perhaps write down that it is a 15 week internship and give the dates (eg. Aug 15 to present). That way they will know that you are currently doing the program. In general, the understanding is that you will complete anything you put on your application; and if you don’t, you will update your application to reflect the change.

A paid internship could go under Work Experience. If it is unpaid, under Additional Information would be good.

It is unpaid (I am also in a paid internship for a CPA firm that I have been doing much longer that I am definitely putting under work experience). So are you saying that an unpaid internship would not go under EC’s at all, but instead additional info? I had been planning to put it under Career-Oriented in the EC section.

I would hate to move it out of EC’s because that would leave me with only 2 things listed there. I was trying to only put only significant activities in EC which is why I was only going to have the 3, and I consider this to be important (I was going to list it second).

My first EC (the one I wrote my short answer about) is very unique and is something I have been doing since before HS which should help, but I don’t want to only roll with 2 things and leave 5 spaces empty. The city commission internship is 15 hours, plus another 20 at my other internship and 14 from my other 2 EC’s (student senator=4, unique EC=10). I definitely want it noticed that I am doing this internship because it is a big commitment of unpaid hours and something I care about.

Would it be incorrect to put it under EC’s as career-oriented, put intern under position held, and put something like: Internship for (city, state) city commissioner (commissioners name) Aug 25-present?

Sorry, my mind clicked off there for a second ;). Under ECs is good, you definitely want to fill in those spaces before putting things in the Additional Info spot. The way you suggested listing it sounds fine.

Thanks for the help, I can’t wait to get this submitted to WUSTL. I think I have a very strong/focused overall app.
