I’m almost done filling the FAFSA and found it to be very quick - a lot more than I expected. They allowed me to skip some of the last questions including the student income (I have a job so I expected to fill it out).
My mother makes ~$20,000 with 3 kids and files as head of household. They did not ask me to fill out anything about parent 2 which I was confused by because I always hear FAFSA requires both parents.
Can I proceed to submit the application this way?
Since I know this will be asked, we don’t know about my father’s whereabouts, parents are separated in that sense. And he does not provide any financial support.
Your parents are separated so the parent you don’t live with is not required on the FAFSA. But make sure you have some documentation of that separation, because likely you will be selected for verification.
Your mom’s low income, I believe, qualifies for either the auto $0 EFC or simplified needs test. Neither requires student income…I believe.
@kelsmom can verify whether I’m right or wrong so wait for her answer before you submit.

The student most likely qualifies for the auto 0 formula, which doesn’t require student income to be reported (simplified needs formula does require student income). If the student checked off that the parents are separated/divorced or never married, the father’s information is not required.
