questions about harvard

I really want to get into harvard . i made a book and i was asking if i could show you my first chapter if i should improve myself . If you want me to send it to you in private it’s ok .And please tell me if i make mistakes i’m french :smiley:
Is it mandatory that the book sells a lot ?

In order to impress the admissions people, your book would have to be published by a legitimate publisher, not “self-published”. The idea is your work would have to be professional enough to be marketable on a national level. (In France or the U.S.)

Is kindle ok ?

Is your book being published on kindle by a national level publisher? (One who markets and advertises books?)

I’d be happy to take a look and suggest some edits for you, if that’s what you’re asking.

The thing about publishing now is that it’s not that impressive anymore. Anyone can do it; being published doesn’t mean the book is any good.

it hasn’t been published yet i’m going to publish it myself en kindle

^^ Then what you WILL have is a self-published book. And that self-published book will not have been available on Kindle for very long when you actually apply to college. So, your book is not going to boost your chances or matter at all.

Keep in mind that other student’s apply to HYPS with their works published in scientific journals, or nationally ranked publications – and your self-published work is going to be directly compared to theirs. For example, a girl I know had a play she wrote produced on Broadway when she was 17 years old, right before she applied to colleges. She ultimately went to Yale, but that’s the level of competition for school’s like HYPS.

we’ll see :wink:

@SweedDz I hope I am wrong. It sounds like you want to go to Harvard badly (just like many others) and you are willing to do anything to get accepted. A very good thing, I would say.

Yet, you are forgetting something very important!! Harvard wants “You” for who you are!

Just be YOURSELF!!!

And if I am wrong about you, please accept my apology in advance!

@CollegeEducation I write a book,even if it’s a flop for 95%,i’ll try,the problem is i’m afraid that they think i’m well-rounded just because i do a lot of activities .
The book may be a ‘’+’’ or not but i love to write it lol

When you go through a publishing company, they have professional editors and staff to promote your book.

It might be more impressive to attempt to go the regular route for publishing a book – attend workshops for writers, read some of your work at local bookstores or where ever these readings take place, contact editors for various companies, prepare a prospectus or send a few chapters. In your application, you could describe your progress with this. It would be odd to self publish a book without trying to learn what real writers do.

And that’s the way to present this: as an activity that required a lot of time and commitment. Publication would be an extra, but it’s not the important thing.

Do we even know what kind of “book” it is?

^ Fantasy novel.

I hereby revise my previous post to “Skyrim fanfiction.”

@SweetDz,

I imagine that a self-published novel will have the same weight as a long-term commitment to a particular extracurricular activity in which you enjoyed moderate success. It’s a real plus, but nowhere near a game-changer.

it’s a skyrim fan fiction but i will change the names i hope it’ll be allright .

Your posting history centers on parading your various attributes as part of your Harvard application and you get defensive when holes get pointed out (international applicant, not a recruited athlete, self-published novel, effects of knowing 8 languages, etc.). For international applicants, assume a 1% admit rate. Then pursue your actions with that in mind. May I direct you to this thoughtful post?
