Questions about honors

Lets say that you get National Merit Semifinalist and National AP Scholar.

Those awards are for tests during 11th grade or before. However, I dont think you get those actual awards until a couple of weeks into the 12th grade school year.

So are those awards considered 12th grade awards or 11th grade awards?

For the National Merit Semfinalist, i know that its a “national merit” thing, but its based on state PSAT scores…so would you put that as national or state award

If you know what RSI is (research science institute), would you consider that international or national honor (for a domestric applicant)…i havent made it but im just curious

thanks

I would consider both of those as 11th grad, but adcoms know what they are so the year won't impact them.

NMSF is national, hence the "national"

RSI wouldn't be an honor, per say, but definitely something to list in "additional information" if you don't work it into other parts of your application (essays)

I put 12th on my application... I consider awards on the year I received them... If you received the Nobel prize in 2009, you don't say you got it in 2007 just because you did your research then... :)

For National Merit Commended and AP National, I put them as National level award... (they're not exactly local...)

For RSI, I'm not sure... but I don't think the fine print of National/International distinction really matters... I'm sure the adcoms know about RSI...

yea, if im lucky to even make rsi, ill just probably put that under math/science research under the EC activites section.

i just wanted to ask the year because I dont want colleges to think that i cannot even get the years right (but im guessing its only for them to check-because you two said two different years and it doesnt matter)

you're 11th grade and you're already national ap scholar? wow

^huh no.

but if i get 4s or 5s on the 5/8 AP tests that I am taking this year, Ill have AP National Scholar...

Thats why i was wondering about it...ill take the tests this year as a junior but technically you do not get the award until early senior year.

oh i see
i put 12th on national merit and ap national scholar
good luck

^yea hopefully

i have one more question (i dont want to create another thread)

Lets say that you are a Siemens Semifinalist...so you obviously put that under academic honors/distinctions...

However, under the EC section you put Research. So for the honors won, positions held...section of the EC for REsearch, should you repeat yourself and put Siemens Semifinalist again?

Do colleges think thats annoying, or should you do that because it puts the research award more in context?

What did you guys do

thanks
