I'm entering as a freshmen this fall at SD, and was wondering which math class would be a better fit for my schedule and my major in applied mathematics. Are there any advantages to taking Math 31AH over Math 20C? Also, should I take CSE 3 or CSE 8A/8AL? After taking the CSE Advisory Exam, I was recommended to take CSE 3. However, after reading around the forums, I've heard that the test results could have been incorrect since everyone seems to be advised to take CSE 3. At the moment, I'm struggling to choose the right classes and was wondering if the following schedule is adequate.

Warren Writing 10A

Econ 1 (for my PoFC Social Sciences requirement)

Math 31AH or Math 20C

CSE 8A/8AL

Thnx in advance to any answers.

How much computer science experience do you have? I’ve heard that CSE 3 is for those with virtually no prior knowledge of the subject… And from what I’ve gathered on these forums, taking the honors courses don’t really seem to benefit you that much, the idea of a “smaller class size” is considered overrated, and that you might only want to take it if you are looking for the more intense/rigorous course. But that’s not from what I’ve personally experienced since I’m an incoming freshman too, it’s just what I’ve read. Since you’re majoring in math you might want to take the honors course though since you’ll be around math all the time. lol But it’s also been said that taking honors courses here aren’t exactly like taking an AP over a regular class in high school in the way that it clearly benefits you in high school. But get more opinions on that, probably from people that have experience with it haha

PS you can look at this thread regarding math honors courses http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-san-diego/983319-benefits-math-31ah-31bh-31ch.html
