Questions about Moving?

(This is also posted in the college admissions forum. Just wanted to get a different perspective or see if anyone else has been in this situation)

How do colleges view a student that has moved during high school?

I'll be a senior next year but I moved cross country during the spring of my junior year. Will colleges take this into considerations(sp?) when they look at my application? I have kept my grades up in all my classes but, because I ended up moving so late in the year my course load for the second semester of my junior year was really weak (only one AP and one honors the rest had to be filled with PE and electives).

Also, because of the move, will colleges be able to overlook my lack of leadership? Should I even try to join clubs at my new school and try to gain leadership positions in them or would this look bad because I was only in them for senior year?

I am really freaking out right now because at my new school they have this Health Careers path that students can take which basically gives them the most rigorous course load the school offers, plus lots of opportunities for internships and even jobs at the local hospital. In addition, my new school won't give me the weighted credit any of my honors or IB courses from my old school, so compared to others in my class I fell that it makes me look like a slacker

Is there any possible way that that this move could have a positive impact on my college apps? Like would the fact that I maintained good grades and a rigorous senior year course load give me any edge?

Bad if it affects grades too much. Good if grades stay the same or rise.

Only if you put it in a positive light in an essay.

Only a few student are leaders.

Yes to the first part. No to the second part.

I think colleges understand that it’s stressful, but they still expect good grades etc. If the new school wouldn’t let you take the same level classes you may need to ask your GC to make sure that is part of the letter he/she writes for you. Also if you were ranked at your old school you might get a separate transcript from there that shows that. You should join whatever clubs and get involved in whatever activities you would have been inovlved in. Leadership isn’t just about titles - it’s about what you do. Look for opportunities to make a difference in your new community.
