dude santa cruz is not racist...im a UCSC sophomore from LA and santa cruz definitely isnt racist. i think the best colleges for a student looking to have a good time and be social are cowell, college 9, college 10, stevenson (where I was), and college 8. Porter is wayyyyyy too artsy shfarsty and oakes and kresge are too far from everything...and crown/merrill are the absolute worst colleges in santa cruz...and off campus life is definitely better than on campus life.

and I also read a while back about transferring out of santa cruz... I applied this year as a trasnfer out of santa cruz with a 3.45 GPA majoring in Business Management Econimics

UCB-rejected (I applied to Haas)
UCLA-rejected (the average GPA of a transfer majoring in Business Econ is 3.8)
UCSD-accepted
UCSB-accepted
UCI-accepted
USC-they requested my spring grades so I havent heard from them yet.

unless I get into USC i wont transfer out of santa cruz...the other UCs (except for santa barbara) have horrible social lives. santa cruz is fun, very chill, and easy to do well at.

Dreamcast,

Aside from the prestige factor of schools like Haas, would you care to share why you want to transfer? My son is considering applying to UCSC next year and I am looking for student opinions about their experience there. Thanks.

So I have a question about the summer orientation, Is it a stay over type of thing or is it just one day?

Hey, don't know whether the answering people are still around, but I have a question, hope someone will answer it....

How is it with skipping class at UCSC? Is it a problem? Is there a certain limit? (e.g. at my home uni we can miss 25 percent of every course every semester..)

sorry I've been MIA for a while, I'm spending summer in the middle east w/out a computer...

Skipping classes depends on the course. Most don't care, it's your own responsibility to learn the material. Some teachers take attendance - check the policy the first day. Sections are almost always mandatory.

Is there a limit to how much you can download each day? I don't think I'll be bringing a tv with me and would like to download tv shows that I watch.

as of last year, there is no download limit. however, there is an UPLOAD limit of 2 GB/day. They're really strict about that one. Keep that in mind if you use torrents.

I have a 2.6 gpa as a transfer student. Do you guys think I would have any chance at all of getting in? UCSC is definitely my number 1...

I would think you need at least a 3.0 if you want to transfer.

I thought the minimum gpa for transfers was 2.0 or 2.5 or something like that. Check the ucsc website, they must have some info on there...
