Now that the SSA is in, does anyone have any info on turnaround times? Presumably it varies by program?
Answering my own question:
Most offers resulting from the SSA are sent between February and March, and all SSA scholarships will be awarded prior to May 1. Since the academic schools and departments that utilize the SSA operate on varying award timelines, notifications may or may not be provided, dependent upon each organization’s individual selection processes. If you are selected as a recipient for more than one scholarship, you will receive separate award notifications from each individual department. If you complete the FAFSA, you will receive a Financial Aid Notification from the Office of Student Financial Assistance in mid-February. Additionally, students can access the financial aid and scholarship summary at any time through One.IU. Search for and select “Student Center,” scroll to the Finances section, and choose “View Financial Aid.”
I actually received one offer from the SSA last week, not through an email but through. a check of the scholarship portal. Submitted December 16th
Will any SSA award be updated separately from financial aid notification? Just saw an update on financial aid due to submitting FASFA but nothing on SSA award.
If you receive scholarships of any type your financial aid will be updated. This is just basically the baseline financial aid award.
My son was awarded an additional $5000 per year after completing the SSA, but he wasn’t notified until late March. His total annual award was $13,000.
This is what I’m hoping for. He is in the mix for a Cox Research Scholarship, probably won’t get it, but he also has a chance with Hutton Honors and his essays that he wrote are amazing. If he gets any additional scholarships it will be because of his writing skills.
Just checked my financial aid and I was offered the Herbert Presidential scholarship, they are definitely continuing to roll out awards!!
Are you going to have to give some money back? You are killing it over there, congrats!!
I believe that extra merit awards are handed out preferentially. So if they really want you, they will wait to hear if you commit. I say this because when my son was awarded, they specifically requested that my son let them know as soon as he could if he would attend. They stated that the award would be given to another student if my son passed.
I’m sure that your parents are very proud of you. Your hard work has paid off and you deserve everything that comes your way. I’d wish you continued success, but I don’t think that you will need it.
Has anyone heard from back from Hutton Honors yet?
Not yet, seems as though nobody has.
Thanks, it’s what it seems but wasn’t sure.
I just checked the financial aid portal today and my OOS
D was awarded a $6000 SSA scholarship from Hudson and Holland. Looks like they’re starting to post awards. Good luck to all!
I looked on my sons financial aid portal this morning and he was awarded another 2,000$ from IU. He is instate and with his initial 7,000$ Provost Scholarship his tuition is almost covered. We are very thankful, indeed.
Congrats! I hope the rest of the SSA awards come out soon. My son is starting to lose interest in IU.
They should be. Hopefully something comes your son’s way. We were just glad that he got a little more money. I don’t know if it was from Hutton or a departmental scholarship. He’s in the COAS and I’m sure that his essays are what did it for him. He just squeezed into Hutton with his December ACT score. Good Luck
My kiddo got the Dean’s scholarship and H&H. I think the only we’re waiting on is Hutton. We’re out of state, so while he’s done well so far, he still has a ways to go for it to be affordable.
