Questions about SJSU

Hi, I got accepted to San Jose State University for Electrical Engineering and I am planning on getting my bachelor’s degree and apply for masters degree afterward. You don’t have to answer all of them but it would be nice if you did I have a few questions:

  1. Is SJSU a good college for Electrical Engineering, and can I get good pay? (110k+) (what's considered a decent amount of money?)
  2. From first to last, which colleges are best for Electrical Engineering major: UCSC, UCR, UCM, and SJSU?
  3. Are there good internship opportunities, paid or unpaid?
  4. Can you transfer to UC Berkeley or any other good colleges after 2 years in SJSU?
  5. How important is it to maintain my GPA in SJSU, is all C's acceptable when transferring/internships or should I aim for a 4.0?
  6. What are the stereotypes of SJSU students? Are they viewed as "not smart" and is it a party school?
  7. What is the official total tuition cost, including housing, meals, etc.? (I looked for it on Google and only found the tuition cost).
  1. $110k pay for first job at graduation is not a realistic expectation, even though engineering pay levels are generally good compared to other majors. http://www.sjsu.edu/careercenter/docs/SJSU%2016-17%20Salary%20Survey%20Final%20Report.pdf suggests that the median pay found by 2016-2017 SJSU EE graduates at the bachelor's level is $69,460 (although only 6 graduates responded; range from $44,000 to $160,000).
  2. All of the schools you have listed except UCM have ABET accreditation for EE. You may want to ask UCM if getting ABET accreditation for EE is in progress. It may be more necessary if you want to go into power systems or some such where a PE license would be needed. You may want to see what subareas of EE are available at each school.
  3. Engineering internships should be paid, and SJSU is in a good location accessible to companies that may have them, at least in the computer and semiconductor subareas.
  4. Many employers include college GPA in initial screening to determine who gets interviewed; the most common cut-off GPA is 3.0. So a 3.1 student may get many more interviews than a 2.9 student. But once at the interview, it comes down to other factors.
