Hello, my daughter is very interested in a couple of LACs in California, but she applied regular decision and is concerned that ED students might be filling up the spots. She would like to submit a couple of supplemental materials in the hopes that they will make her stand out more than just the information in the Common App.
She is thinking of submitting a copy of a teen magazine she writes for, and perhaps some of the photographs she takes (she has been chosen for an exhibit in a competition for high school students).
My questions are, should she submit these? If so, should she ask the Admissions Offices first to see if they want them? And should she submit them online (scan the articles and attach the scans to an e-mail, for instance), or mail them the old-fashioned way?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Well the fact that she contributes to a magazine really makes her stand out. I think that submitting a copy would be a true supplement to the application, and well advised. I haven’t applied to the west coast at all, but in my applications, I was able to attach files for the supplement. If that is possible, you can just scan the magazine and submit it online. If not, I don’t see any problem in mailing it in, although there are probably guidelines to follow when submitting supplemental material through mail. Hope this helps!
