questions about swarthmore application

1.if i couldnt get in through ED,will i be deferred to RD or denied?
2.what makes swarthmore different from other top lacs?
thanks a lot

You will either be defered or rejected. Depends on the admissions committee's decision (although I think Swat. defers less than the Ivies...which I think defer most.)

1."Any Early-Decision candidate not admitted will receive one of two determinations: a deferral of decision, which secures reconsideration for the candidate among the Regular-Decision candidates, or a denial of admission, which withdraws the application from further consideration."

2.Swarthmore was endlessly compared to other colleges on this forum. Just do a search for the name of the colleges you want to compare it to on the Swarthmore forum.

Among other things, differentiating characteristics at Swarthmore include:

a) An unusual degree of academic engagement

b) Co-ed from the day it was founded with by-law requiring equal numbers of men and women on the Board of Managers

c) A belief that a college has an obligation to not only promote learning, but ethical leadership qualities in its students

d) An concensus style of governance with students, faculty, and administration sharing the same goals to an unusual degree.

e) An "inside the beltway" location in a metro area of 5 million.

f) An engineering department

g) No freshmen dorms. First year students live in real dorms with the other students.

There are more, but those are some of the highlights.

thanks a lot for your information
