I'm wandering about whether or not to choose the statistics master degree in Tulane University. Is there anybody know the academic level in this major? And how about the career future as a statistics M.S. graduate?

I can’t speak to the quality of the offerings at a master’s degree level for statistics, but there are various strong career options for someone with advanced coursework in this field. But the proof is in the results, so you should write to one of the profs at Tulane that specializes in stats and see what some of the typical outcomes are.

Hi wawashui, I’m also interested in exploring the M.S. in statistics if I enroll at Tulane as an undergrad. I see a 4+1 program is offered. Do you already have a B.S. degree?

I’m not quite clear what you mean by what is the academic level of this degree. Are you asking whether Tulane’s program is rigorous as compared to other MS in statistics programs, or are you asking whether, in general, is a master’s in statistics an academically demanding degree?

Career-wise, there is a wide range of job opportunities for a person with an MS in statistics.

An exercise you may want to do to assess Tulane’s program is compare the course requirements and descriptions listed here:
[Tulane University - Department of Math - Graduate Degree Requirements](http://tulane.edu/sse/math/academics/graduate/degree-requirements.cfm#ms_statistics)
with the equivalent listings at other schools.

Thank you for your answering, I’ll ask a faculty for this question

Candles2014, Thank you for your detailed answer.
Yes, I’ve already have a B.S. degree in China.
I’m asking about whether Tulane’s program is rigorous as compared to other MS in statistics programs, such as the amount of faculty in this area, how much research papers they’ve been published, what’s the relative ranking of the statistics major in Tulane in US news

I see. Please let us know what you find out. I admittedly don’t know much about rankings of graduate programs in statistics, including what factors are used to formulate rankings.

I don’t know whether statistics is one of those fields where the name of your grad school is going to matter when it comes to getting hired, when you’re talking about a master’s degree.

What are you hoping to do with statistics, wawashui? I was thinking about the master’s program more for the usefulness/applicability of the knowledge in other fields I’m interested in exploring, such as economics, biostatistics, psychology, possibly even medicine. In looking at required courses for many of these fields, statistics seems to keep popping up in the lists.

I’m not gonna go to Tulane now. A few days ago, I learned that the tuition and fee of statistics in applied mathematics master degree is $9900+$990=$10890 for a semester this year. I couldn’t afford so much. So, I would rather choose another university. But still best wishes to you. Hope you would get what you want.
