questions about transferring as a sophomore

hey everyone, i’m thinking about transferring to emory for spring semester this year. i’m a sophomore in college right now.

what do i do if i want to go into the business school junior year? how will they judge me to be admitted to the business school? do i just apply to emory college and then apply for the business school when everyone else does?

who am i supposed to get to write the transfer student recommendation? is that like a teacher rec?

thanks for any help!

1) yes

2)yes

Good luck!

thanks for the quick reply, but i'm not really sure what you are responding "yes" to for the first set of questions. i guess i need to apply to the regular college and then into the b-school (assuming i get in) later in the spring. so will my chances for the b-school be based on my current school grades + emory spring semester grades?

also does anyone know if there is on-campus housing for transfers?

sorry for the high amount of questions but i'm coming up on the deadline in a month and i only decided to definitely transfer about a day or two ago (though i've been thinking about it for a year!).

thanks again

I am not sure how this is going to work because you need to apply to the B school at the end of either Fall or Spring of your Sophomore year. Since your applying for Spring as a transfer, you ALSO need to apply to the B school.

** What classes have you taken at your University? ** There are 3 or 4 Pre-Requisites that need to be fulfilled before one can enter the B school; although I am sure they will waive one or two and let you take them once in.

Also, I would check what GERs you have fulfilled. If not many, your going to have a hard time juggling taking the Pre-Requisites, GERs, and the full Goizueta course load.

Give us more info. and we can help you out. I would also contact the B school ASAP and ask them about the formalities on where the application need be sent (i.e. One to the College, One to the B school; or just One to the B school as a transfer).

You'll apply to the B-school once you get here and complete your pre-req's. If you get accepted, just talk to Libby Egnor at the B-school and she'll answer any of your questions. You don't need to worry about pre-req's right now as an applicant.

Housing for transfers is based on availiability, but they really do try to put you in. I haven't heard of any transfer students who didn't get housing (if they wanted it) this year.

I'll try to answer whatever other questions you might have :)

to dell123. including this semester i have taken (in 3 semesters)--

microeconomics
calc II for business
intro to philosophy
astronomy
intro psychology

greco-roman mythology
econ in society seminar
science literacy (just an all-encompassing science course)
understanding societies (sociology)
intro theology

(what i'm taking now)
accountancy I
business law
principles of management
IT management
another philosophy course

i read that grades from a transfers previous school do not transfer to emory. how will this affect my potential admission into the b-school?

From what Libby told me, they will accept you into the b-school once they receive your spring grades. Assuming they are acceptable and you have met your pre-reqs, you should be ok. I just honestly do not know if I want to spend a semester at the college.

hey, i already posted my thread.
but i'm gonna ask again.
is 3.2/3.4 GPA from GA Tech enough for Emory transfer?
i'm an Asian male with 1400/1600, 3.7/4.0, and few awards & clubs

so...my acceptance into the b-school will be based purely on my spring semester grades at emory? sorry, i'm still confused.

It will be based on your GPA from your other school, your pre-requisites, and your spring semester grades at Emory.

I asked this question in the admissions forum and didn't get a straight answer so hopefully you guys can help me out...

When Emory writes that "The average length for a short answer essay is one half of a typed page," is that single-spaced or double-spaced? I already wrote them but now I don't know if they are the right length!
