Questions about transferring credits?

Hi, I'm going to be a soph at umich next year. I've been trying find out if there's any way I can graduate in 3 years. Looking into all the transfer rules....it seems like it's near impossible. But anyhow, any input would be really appreciated!

1) Can you drop ap credits? I came in with quite a few and I feel they are hurting me more than anything, because now I can't take summer courses next summer and have them transfer (once you've got 60 credits at UM, you can't transfer any more...or so I hear).
I feel like these credits are pretty useless...they don't count towards any prerequisites, concentration requirements, or distribution requirements (I'm in LSA). I'd rather fill in these 11 credits with 16 useful ones in summer.

2) Can I transfer credits I took this summer later on, so that I don't fill up that 60 credit rule before next summer?

Any advice is appreicated. Thanks!

Yes, you can reject credits.

I don’t understand how your plan in #2 works… You can delay transferring credits, but you will be charged retroactively for any tuition differences that would have occurred if you had transferred them immediately, and the rules about 60 credits will apply as if you had transferred everything immediately.

I have a question related to transfer credits too: If I take a class which I already have transfer credits for as an incoming freshman, can I still keep the credits or have to reject them? e.g. if I got 4 credits for Econ 101 from IB already and I take that class again, do I end up with 4 or 8 credits? Thanks!

If you have credits for a class you cannot retake the class for credit. So if you have credit for Econ 101 and you take Econ 101, you will not gain any more credits. However, if you just have credit for Econ 1XX, you can get credit for Econ 101.
