I have some general questions regarding the college transfer process. I am currently enrolled in a four year private institution and I am planning on transferring to another (mainly top tier schools):
1- When does one normally apply to transfer (semester and year)?
2- How much weight is placed on SAT scores and high school transcripts?
3- I recently read that medical schools tend to deny transfer students more than students who remian at the same school for all four years–is this true?
4- Do you have any advice regarding this process and how to achieve a successful outcome?
All answers are greatly appreciated!
For Spring you have to start applying in the Fall. For Fall you have to start applying in the beginning of the Spring semester. As far as SAT scores, that all depends. For me, colleges in Maryland don’t require SAT scores unless you have less than 30 college credits. As for med school I am in the same position as you. I’m in community college and plan on transferring to a four year university and then hopefully getting into med school. I have read that med school tend to look down upon students who take SCIENCE classes at CC, they think they are trying to get the easy way out. SO right now I’m taking prereqs, like College Algebra, English, Psyc, Sociology, philopsphy, and other humanties courses. My advice to you is to not take any science courses at CC, volunteer and get your clinical experience(EMT,Nurse,Scribe,etc.). Message me and keep me updated if you don’t mind because I am so in your spot right now.
Thank you so much @dreamadream!
@mnesh28 CORRECTION:If you obtain you Associates at CC, then they can’t say anything, but going to a four year and then taking science classes at CC will come up in your med school interview if even asked to be interviewed.
