Questions about U of R

I have a son that is a senior in HS. He has received an award for U of R. He also plays football and is being recruited by some Ivy's and U of R. From what I have read, it seems like U of R may be a good fit. How is the football team? How is student life? How are the living arrangements? He plans on either Aerospace Engineering or Pre-Med. He does not drink or do drugs, will he be able to find a good social life there? He may go NROTC, is there a good unit there? He has also applied to USNA and the Air Force academies.
I really like what I have read and the football coach has actually written a personal note to him, instead of the canned emails most of the other schools send. Very nice touch.

Can’t tell you anything about the football team, but D fits into the category of doesn’t “drink or do drugs”. She’s had a fine social life at UR. There are lots of activities for the students aside from the party scene. Movies, lecture series, concerts, intramurals, enrichment classes, clubs, volunteering. Or just staying in with her friends, watching DVDs and making popcorn.

Living arrangements–all freshman and sophomores are required to live on campus. Freshman live in freshman only dorms. Typically in doubles, but there are some triples as well. Some rooms are bigger than others, but generally they’re clean and comfortable. Quad dorms tend to have bigger rooms than Sue B. Food–quality varies, but there are a number of options for on-campus dining. Students can use their declining points (part of the meal plan) at some off-campus restaurants.

NROTC has good rep-or at least D’s (now ex-) bf was happy with the program.

Both the pre-med and engineering programs are strong academically and have excellent reputations with grad/professional schools. Lots of undergrad research opportunities in both areas.

Thank you very much. He has been accepted at Navy, most likely he will go there. Thank you again.

UR football is, quite frankly, terrible. If that is his passion, the Navy is the way to go.
