Questions about Vassar - Help!

I'm the father of an high school student who was accepted to Vassar, Swarthmore and Pomona College. It's a tough choice. My son studies hard, but doesn't really like pressure (although he does fine under it). I have read many places that Swarthmore is more intense, more pressure, particularly in the work load.

So I wonder if someone can help me with figuring out Vassar a bit more. My son and I visited Vassar last summer for a tour (as well as Swarthmore) and liked it. He's interested in biology, religious studies (religions), and writing (he's written a couple novels and some poetry for himself in his spare time). He likes to have time for this extra work on his own.

How is the biology department at Vassar, and the religious studies, and the writing? And how's the atmosphere? How's the rigor? Is there time to dream?

We'd appreciate feedback.
