Questions for current students.

Where are some of your favorite places on and off of campus?

Where do you typically study?

What are some good classes to cover liberal eds?

Any tips for orientation or welcome week?

Thanks!!

I don’t really have any favorite places I can think of. I guess I’d say all of the sporting events around town. We have 4 major pro sports teams, major NCAA hockey, basketball, and football teams, a good independent baseball team, and an MLS team in the area. Great if you love sports.

I usually just study in my room but I know a lot of people can’t focus like that. If you can’t, most if not all dorms have computer rooms and/or study lounges that are quiet and good for studying. There are also a ton of libraries on campus if you don’t want to go back home to study in the middle of the day.

I did ESCI 1001 with Kirkby for my physical science. It wasn’t “easy” but it wasn’t hard and he is a great professor. I’ve also heard that history of rock is good for arts and humanities. Biology of sex is known to be the easiest bio class but it’s still biology. Personal leadership is a fairly easy writing intensive class. I’d suggest not worrying about lib ed classes yet. In total you need to cover 15 things between 7 core classes, 4 themes, and 4 writing intensive classes. Once I got my AP classes added and did my college-specific requirements, I only had 5 things left (4 core classes and 1 writing intensive). It’s a lot less stuff than it sounds like.

For orientation, just try to have fun. There’s a lot of boring stuff they make you do but still try to have fun. You will have some free time.

I didn’t do welcome week but I’ve heard there’s a lot of boring stuff in there too. I strongly suggest going to the pride and spirit event, the first football game, and the fair they have in the hockey arena. I think you have a lot of flexibility as to what you do or don’t do - you’re not in high school anymore. I don’t suggest sitting inside and doing nothing but if there is something that just doesn’t sound fun, find a group of people to do other things with.
