Questions from a High School student..

Hello Forum.

First post here and I have been reading and culminating some knowledge so I'll try not to ask something that has been asked before.

Well I know alot of us high school students dream of going to the Ivy League university/college (mind the use of university as a replacement for college I'm from Canada :)) and I have just a few :)

I am a grade 9 student from Ontario, Canada. I am in the Pre-IB program, and my first semester at school my average was a 83% or an A- here in Canada.

So I was wondering what I should aim for my grades to be? Do Ivy Leagues look at Grade 9-12 marks? What kind of extra-curriculars should I participate in? Is there a particular language Ivy Leagues like?

Also - I have an option to take either world history (History from beginning of time to the 1600's) or American. I don't know which I should opt for?

And any IB students have any tips for the niner?

Thanks alot!

There is no “magic formula”. Schools like Harvard are looking for exceeding talented and inquisitive individuals who affect people around them. They attack the most rigorous academic offerings and conquer them.

There is no such thing as a Harvard-preferred history class or language. What kind of ECs? What do you like? Really. If you do something that really interests you, then it might interest Harvard.

What kind of grades? The best ones.

And still, even those who achieve this still are facing an under seven percent admit rate. Now it’s up to you to figure this all out. Good luck to you.
