Hi guys,
I was admitted RD to Vanderbilt and I'm having a tough time deciding between a couple of options, so I was just hoping that some current or past students could give me some more info before I made a final decision. I'm planning on majoring in econ and going into finance after college so I was wondering whether Vandy places well into investment banking and consulting, and if major firms (GS, JP, MS, BoA, Bain, etc.) recruit on campus? Also at admitted students day the dean said there were 775 econ majors out of the class of like 1600 so I was also curious whether theres like an insane amount of competition for internships and jobs because of so many people? I know that Vandy has a pretty heavy Greek scene and I'm thinking about rushing, but I was wondering whether joining a frat would be a huge time commitment. I know some schools have frats that are really active whereas some are less so, and I would really like to dabble in a lot of other activities so just curious about that too. And for any people that have already graduated, just wondering if there's a strong alumni network because i know business is pretty involved in networking and I was hoping that I would have the ability to make some connections while I'm at Vandy. FInal question, what are the odds I see TSwift in Nashville (:? Sorry for the huge post but if anyone could answer any of the questions I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

I think it really depends on what other school(s) you’re considering, but I’ve heard that yes, investment firms do actively recruit from Vanderbilt. Vandy has also increased in prestige drastically over the past decade, which is always a plus.

That can’t be right. They had 204 econ grads in 2013:

@soCalDad2 that sounds so much better thanks for that! maybe they were counting minors or kids who started out as econ majors?

Might be total econ majors from all four years.

My son is an Econ major (and math) but is not planning on a career in finance. He has liked his classes and professors.

Investment banks, Bain and other strategy consutling firms, as well as Deloitte and Accenture all have strong presence on campus. Each recruits from various majors–much wider range than just Econ majors. Deloitte and Accenture are both recruiting HOD/Managerial Studies and HOD/Econ majors as well.

S had a double major in econ and math. During the 4 hours of Commencement 2006, I took time to count all the econ majors in the program, as it seemed there were so many. I seem to remember there were a little over 200. My understanding is that Bain is a Vandy alum, so they take at least 1 VU grad each year.
