So...first of all~

I have US Citizenship but I grew up in Taiwan so I don't know if I should indicate myself as an international student or not.

Another concern I have is that my school doesn't offer AP courses and I'm wondering if I should explain this to the colleges I'm applying to or not. I'm worried that they would think I didn't challenge myself by taking any AP courses. :/

Please answer my questions or give any advice~ thank you !!! :)))

it goes by citizenship, so u r not an international student.
Yes, u should explain the AP problems - maybe put them in the additional informational part on the comapp.

Also re: your AP issue, talk with the guidance counselor at your school to confirm what they will be sending along with your applications. High schools normally submit a school profile that details exactly what curriculum is offered, your school grading system, etc. Additionally, the counselor usually submits a Secondary School Report or similar document that is a more personalized introduction of you and what you have done in the context of your school environment.

For schools on the Common App, you don’t need to explain the lack of AP courses. There is a question on the Common App’s school report (and probably on the school forms for most non-Common App schools) that asks how many AP/IB courses were offered.

Admissions offices are very good at looking at you in the context of your school. They’re not going to expect you to have taken AP classes if your school didn’t have them.
