Questions on hair...

Hello everyone!!! I just recieved my appointment Monday and will be on the XC and track team at the academy and I have a few questions on hair styles. I am curious about hair lengths on girls, because the track coach has told me I can keep it long and when I was there for my recruiting trip, I saw some of the girls with pretty long hair, just tied back tight in buns... however from other posts I've read here, it sounds as if I HAVE to keep it short for plebe summer...I am skilled at quick buns that keeps all my hair back quickly (it is mid-shoulderblade length), so would I be allowed to keep it if it stays back or would it be better to cut it and try to grow it later? I'm quite torn on what to do since cutting it short would be a problem during cross country season in the fall, but I don't want to get in trouble this summer...Any suggestions from current or recent graduates would help me the most since regulations keep changing...THANK YOU!!! :)

Sorry, I don't have an answer to that question, but I have a question of my own that is somewhat related and thus does not need a thread of its own.

I'm a guy, and my hair is relatively long... Covers my eyebrows and ears and goes past the collar in the back... Since it's curly-ish, it tends to look messy pretty much all the time.

I plan on getting a haircut before NASS in order to make a good impression, but where is the line drawn? How long is too long? Thanks.

Be brave! Get a hairclippper and take it all off!

Works for me! :D

i dont know what the track coach told you, but you MUST cut your hair to just below your earlobes. or they will cut it for you when you get here. girls can grow out their hair afterwards, which is why you saw girls with long hair. as for it being a problem during cross country, my roommate didnt seem to have much of a problem with that.

To the boy with long hair....we have candidates visit with full on beards and long hair in a pony tail and they still get in...it is the mids running summer seminar (squad leaders) that write you evals, and honestly as long as you dont look dirty and you try hard, they will give you a good eval no matter how long your hair is...officers wont even see you really..so dont worry about your hair..trim it up but no need to "be brave! get a hairclipper" for summer seminar...its just an intro to the academy...and ive heard of a TON of people who got bad evals on summer seminar and still got in..so yeah..have fun..and dont worry about the hair

Party pooper! ;)

Keep the clippers handy Z.

The boy had his first NJROTC meeting tonght and the first words out of Master Chief's mouth was "where's my clippers!"

The boy has the "shaggy dog" syndrome but plans on getting a buzz cut same time his sister gets hers cut for I-Day. Unfortunately they found my old high school pics (true 70's child! ;)) so I don't have much of a defense!

Congrats Lyzzybear13! Is your hair long enough to donate to "locks for love"? Right now it looks like Sierra will donate about 18".

Forgive the quick subject change - Zaphod, house closing? All done?

Yep! I are homeowner again! :D:D

Outstanding! :D All the best my friend! We'll have to have a house-warming party! ;)

Thanks!

Gotta get furniture first, though! ;)

I found this USNA Parents site helpful regarding haircuts...
Female Plebes: Have your hairdresser at home give you a short, easy to care for cut prior to I-Day. Your style should be one that you can shampoo, run your fingers through and go. You can grow your hair longer later in the year.
Click HERE to see photos of female Plebes on I-Day. These photos were taken AFTER the USNA barbers had had their chance to adjust their length on I-Day.

I've gotta admit, those are lovely haircuts!

Oh dear I hope I don't look llike that...LOL

hunny...all females mids look well...bad...during plebe summer...the hair is awful...and you must remember that those girls hair cuts were done on I-day..meaning they had at least brushed it and used nice shampoo the night before...DURING plebe summer you take minute long showers with pert shampoo (not dissing on the pert but its not that great for female hair). you brush it once in the morning, and that is it. so basically it looks like you stuck your finger in a light socket every morning to get ready, or some sorta furry animal sat on your head...so dont worry about looking ugly, cuz you will, everyone does. and the boys wont be looking at you anyways...they are too busy memorizing rates to notice that there are girls under the white works, frizzy hair and BCGs...ok well good luck next year.

Hehe, when I went thu Navy bootcamp, they didn't even take the ponytail out of the elastic, just whacked it off right behind! It was not fun. When I went thru OCS a year later, I planned ahead with the short cut (but no layers because I knew I wanted to grow it right back out).

Odd, because when our older daughter went through Marine Corps boot camp, they let her keep her long hair. The girls used so much gel and spray on it to keep it neat, that they all looked like helmet heads by graduation. It took a hair dresser 2 hours to get all the junk out of her hair. Pieces of solidified spray came out in chunks. Not pretty. Our future mid opted to cut her hair a couple of months ago so she wouldn't have to face the Navy barbers.

I have too many layers in my hair to do locks for love, or else I would've loved to do it :) But thank you all for the advice and pics, but I'm starting to realize I prob wont have time to even look in a mirror all summer, so no worries hahaha. I do believe I will chop it a few days before, just so I can enjoy the long hair for as long as possible...

Lyzzybear13 - My son has been letting his hair grow (looks like a shaggy dog!) and plans on getting a buzz cut when his sister gets hers cut. She's planning on waiting till the last minute! I don't think it's been cut since 9th grade.

By the way, you ladies, opps MIDS (Plebes heh, heh ;)) will look just fine!

AND we are all so very proud of you! GO NAVY! :D

"1 on top, zero the sides" has always been my motto.
