Is chemistry a competitive major to apply as, or is it seen the same as most other majors?

Also, I heard that having a C or two will cause UC Berkeley/LA to not even look at you, or it will significantly lower your chance. Is it true?

How important are senior year grades, first semester and second semester?

Is UC Berkeley's College of Chemistry chem major harder to get into than letter of science chem major?

Senior grades do not count other than you can not let them go down substantially or get below a C. The UC GPA is what’s used and and that only includes soph and jr year grades.

If you got a C or 2 in AP classes and stilll have the 4.2 UC GPA they’re looking for, it should not be a big deal.

I had a C in AP english first semester, then transferred to CP english 2nd semester and got an A. Would that be bad, since I transferred out? And I only have a 4.04 UC gpa =/

LC – so you’re not an AP English sort of person, no harm, no foul. If that C had been in a natural science, different story.

4.04 is pretty low UC GPA for Berkeley. But honestly UC GPA is not that important for UCLA and Berkeley. What is your UNCAPPED UC GPA? Remember that “UC GPA” is not the only GPA that Berkeley and UCLA look at. UC GPA is primarily used for reporting purposes, and to establish a baseline for Eligibility in the Local Context, and a few other administratively important cutoffs. However, both Berkeley and UCLA practice holistic admissions. They DO look at freshman year (though not with much weight), along with ECs, and take a careful look at the actual transcript to see the difficulty of course load. Read on each school’s website how they select students. “UC GPA” is not nearly the most important thing they see.

oh i see. my uncapped UC GPA is a tad bit higher than that, not that much higher though. i did fine freshman year, i guess im a bit worried about the difficulty of my course load. by the end of senior year, i’ll only have 7 APs

The COC is harder to get into as a freshman then L&S at Berkeley. Having a C will not cause them to not look at you, but you need to remember that you will be competing against some very talented students. All you can do is your best. There is no reason to worry about something that is over and done with. Try and write a good essay, submit your best application, and then see what happens. That’s all you can do. Good luck!
