I was doing one and I noticed that what was stated in the introduction was one of the answer choices in the primary purpose of this passage. Basically the guy says that people think THIS, but THIS is wrong, and this is how I think. The answer turns out to be the benefits of how the author thinks instead because the passage(parts that I even highlighted!) does talk about its benefits. So when you're looking at the overall purpose, do you look at the intro? Sometimes the intro does have the main idea, but now that I do look at it, the last sentence of the intro does hint at the benefits and then the body paragraphs talk about the benefits. So what should I look at? Intro, thesis, or does it vary too much to give good advice?
