Questions to students who transferred to Dartmouth or have friends who transferred

Posting for someone I know who doesn't have an account:
I'm currently a Sophomore at a top 20 university. I got accepted to Dartmouth and I really want to attend. I am worried about credits transferring however. At most 17 credits will transfer (which is 17 classes which I will be fine with). But if they take only 12-14 then I will be worried as they might hold me back. I don't want to take 4 classes a quarter at a new college. Also will it be hard for me to fufill the graduation requirements? Any advice from transfer students or people who have friends that transferred? The reason I am wondering is because I will not know what credits transfer until September. Thanks!

Exact same problem. I hope you get a good answer because I need to know as well!

Hey - don’t worry about it. They will give you all the credit to catch up with your class. I transferred, and know many many transfers, and I never knew of a single person who had issues with credits transferring. If you’re still concerned I’d recommend calling the registrar’s office.

My daughter got accepted to transfer in as a sophomore and has some of the same concerns. We don’t know exactly what will transfer so we will fly up there this week and try to meet with the necessary folks, see the campus, etc. Glad to hear others are able to transfer in and not suffer a major setback. Thanks!

17 credits = 17 classes? So do they count one class as one credit? The university that I’m at now does credit hours, so most classes count as 3 credit hours each.

^^ Yup. One class = one credit (except for PE, which doesn’t count at all for credits to graduate & is just a requirement). I’m not aware of any exceptions.

No, not in the way that you are phrasing this question How many actual classes have you taken.

At Dartmouth you need 35 classes/“credits” to graduate, not counting PE. These credits include distribution requirements, major and elective.

Each “credit” is the equivalent of a 3/4 credit class taken at a traditional semester system college. The 35 credits at Dartmouth will be ~ 120 credits when you calculate math/science as 4 credit classes and the other classes as 3 credit classes (based on the number of hours a week the sessions are being held)

if your 17 credits is has been taken over 5 classes, that is how many credits you will transfer over

I think he was simply asking whether 17 classes would yield “only” 17 credits.
