Questions: What's the atmosphere like?/ Reputation of Col. Art/Design? +

As I might not be able to visit UM, I'm just wondering if anyone who visited can give me any insights from your experience. Some of the things I'm wondering about are: are the classes WAY too big? Do you ever get small classes, or switch off from big and small during the week? I've heard the city has a fair amount of restraunts and entertainment, but what about diversity and friendliness (that also goes for the U itself)? What's the reputation of the college of Art and Design (esp. Interior or Environmental design and industrial design)? (Additionally, what are the professors like in the col of Art/Design and LSA (esp. languages. i.e.Spanish, Japanese, Chinese)?) Is it hard to transfer into the college of Art/Design & what GPA do you need to do so?

If any one has time to skim the rest of the questions that I packed all together here as well, I'd appreciate it a TON!
The rest:
Does financial aid apply to study abroad? Is it safe? How long does it take to get form one end of the central campus to the other? How big do some of the intro classes get? Wireless? Which are the "friendly" majors? Whats the job placement rate upon graduation (and w/i career choice)? Do students w/i a major live together? Are Sundays Deaddays? How long does it stay warm in the beginning of the year, and when does it warm up? AC and heaters in dorms??? Is there much of a night life? Do the students intermingle w/ the city a lot? Is it easy to get distracted or are students usually studying and hiding from the cold? Is it easy to get lost/lonely or are you always in a group somehow? What are some popular road trips? Are aerobics and salsa available? How nice is the gym?

Your answers will help me choose between UM (where I'll be in the residential college--at least until I decide what my major is and maybe transfer into Art/Design) for $21,000 or Syracuse University (where I'd be an honors student living in a boring superfreezing town in upstate NY) for $11,000.
THANK YOU!!! O.O

Well, I can't handle all the questions asked, but a few things:

the RC and Art & Design both pride themselves on offering smaller classes. The large class thing will be less of an issue for students enrolled in these units.

I don't know about Art & Design's rep, but I think it's moved in some great positive directions since they revised the curriculum. Students are expected to gain experience in just about every medium taught. Digital media is included, and students are also given opportunities to learn the business side of being in the art world.

As for getting in to the SOAD, I don't know what transfer admissions are like. Freshman apps have to submit a portfolio.

thank you!

can anyone else answer the other questions???? :x
