I get the impression that most of the people posting on these pages are soon-to-be NYU students. I'm going to be a CAS sophomore in the Fall, and I have a lot of free time at my job right now, so I figured I could field some questions.

I lived in Brittany but I've been in all the freshman dorms with the exception of Goddard. I would be happy to answer any questions about housing, packing, the social scene, classes, registration, or Welcome Week that you all might have.

Of course, there are plenty of students who pack for college that way. You can buy all your bedding and toiletries, which would have taken up the most space after your clothes, at Bed Bath and Beyond on move-in day. The store closest to campus is incredibly organized that day and you should be able to find almost everything, if not everything, you need there. If you're worried about it go to the Bed Bath and Beyond at home or on the website and make a list of everything you'll need to buy. Then just pack clothes and personal items in the suitcases and your good to go. You also have the option of shipping anything additional, but that shouldn't even be necessary unless you have a guitar or something like that.

Remember, you can buy anything you need/forget in the city.

I am going to be living in Brittany. How is it? Going to be on a top floor, is it incredibly hot? Is there anything you can tell me about th 05 rooms?
Thanks,

It's hot everywhere in Brittany, but only for the first two or three weeks. I didn't spend too much time in the 05 rooms so I don't want to tell you something that's wrong. The thing about Brittany's rooms, though, is that everyone is pleasantly surprised. There's always more space than you need, and I never met anyone who didn't like the dorm set up. If you don't think you have enough space on move-in day, it's probably just the way the furniture is arranged. Triples tend to look smaller or larger depending on where the desks and beds are. I know it's natural to worry a ton about housing, but rest-assured if you're living in Brittany you are extremely lucky.

There's a movie theater two blocks uptown on Broadway. Pizza was always Famiglia for, which is 8th and Broadway, but there's also a really great Italian restaurant on the corner on 10th and University. Jonny Rocket's is also really close. I don't know if there are any attractions that are especially frequented by Brittany residents, except maybe the 24 hour deli around the corner.

Also, you'll realize you need the nearest pharmacy at some point, which is also on Broadway, between 8th and 9th. There's a K-Mart on Astor Place, just one block east of Broadway, where there is also a Starbucks and a Barnes and Noble across the street.
