quick calc question.. HELP lol

helping a friend in honors calc, kinda stumped on an easy problem...

f(x) = radical x

find the point closest to (3,0). use distance formula.

how shud i go about this ??

It's where the graph of y=sqrt((3-x)^2+(0-f(x))^2) has a minimum value

wouldn't it just be x rather than the sqrt(x)?

and okay, given that equation, then take its derivative and set it equal to zero?

I caught myself on that sqrt(x) thing, but yeah, you're right.

yeah, you take the derivative, set it equal to zero, then make sure it's a min and not a max...

right thanks...don't wanna be annoying but i got (5/2, sqrt (5/2) ) as my answer....double check? =)
