Presenter from Yale came to our school to drum up interest, they are possibly looking for applicants from my region/school

Thanks for taking the time guys, I’m super stressed. There’s a whole other side to my college app process which I’ll save you the hassle of reading, but I’ll explain if anyone is interested.

I think you know that you have a chance because your transcript is near flawless. But chances are you won’t get in.

solid shot. I feel princeton values siemens semi more than yale, JMHO. So if u win, I think a better shot at Princeton

Hmmm…URM with top-notch ECs and possible Siemens semifinalist plus good grades/test scores. You have the golden ticket for admission. Stranger things have happened but if everything that is listed on your profile is verifiable then you should start packing your bags for New Haven.

@kjake2000 the OPs profile seems to be a way better fit for Yale. The valedictorian of my son’s school was a Siemens finalist this year and was accepted by Yale and rejected by Princeton. Not a big sample size I must admit. Of course if OP is interested in Physics, Princeton would be the better school.

@n2theoah Thanks for the neater version! If you’re proud of your work, would suggest you submit your research paper as an application supplement. If your school is reasonably sized and has a fair number of applicants to the schools you’re interested in, take a look at the Naviance scattergrams. That will give you a better idea of your chances than anything you’ll find here.

The SCEA acceptance rates are about the same, so pick the one that seems like the better fit.

Here are some variables you can consider:

  • Academics: majors/classes offered, academic calendar, distribution requirements, Princeton’s senior thesis requirement, ease of entry into and exit from a major, research opportunities, overall academic vibe, Yale’s system of allowing you to try out classes before committing, etc.

  • Social vibe: Party scene, Greek scene, sports scene, things to do on campus and around town, clubs, outings, etc. Eating clubs vs. residential colleges, in this case.

  • Environment: New Haven vs. Princeton – weather, city size, transportation, safety; and campus beauty, size and convenience.

  • Cost (obviously), though both schools probably will offer similar aid packages.

  • Housing and food.

OP I would SCEA at Yale. If everything on this is true then I’m certain you’re getting in a top 10 school, write great essays that’s all.

You have a great shot at these schools. If you can afford it, ED or SCEA to one of them. Good luck!
