Hey all, it's time for me to make a decision. I just heard from UC Berkeley and didn't get in (I had a feeling so I'm not too heartbroken), so I have to decide if I want to go to UC Santa Cruz or SJSU. If it's SJSU, I need to decide soon, since I believe I need to accept and do all the other admissions things by May 1st.

I'm transferring into the Linguistics program. Based off what I've read here and what I've seen in rankings and other things, it would appear that Santa Cruz would be the heavy favorite. But since I don't really know too much about either school's programs, I wanted to ask.

I'm interested in working in either computer fields (speech recognition, speech to text, etc). I'm also really interested in acoustics and would like to work that field into my studies as well, if at all possible. The person who turned me onto linguistics studied sound engineering and packed in a lot of physics and acoustics courses and is working on the Ford Sync stuff right now.

With that in mind, is Santa Cruz still the better pick? Does either school give more freedom for tailoring the program to the student's interests?

Thanks for the help!
