So Berkeley has a pretty awesome ling program and is also close to the entertainment biz, which is what i would like to pursue. I was wondering how probable a transfer there would be from the University of Michigan. I have already done some coursework in Linguistics and have about 63 credits between Mich and a local community college in FL. As far as GPA, overall it would be a 3.8+. I'm just wondering how I might be able to transfer there and if I have a shot.

I don't know how impact linguistics but as an out-of-stater you're pretty much at the bottom of the list to be honest. Under normal times it would be difficult, but with the economy down, enrollments at the UCs are way up and with budget cuts its even harder for everyone to get it. Won't cost you anything to try though, I wish you the best of luck.

From UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2006

admit rate for linguistics was 62%. 28 people were admitted out of 45 applicants. Not too bad. That's way better than most other majors, and the avg GPA was 3.45 for admits so I'd say it's possible.
