On the CSS profile, it asks you how much my parents had on the day of submitting the profile.

I put down a number that is actually about 2k higher than what my parents really had on that day.

I guess this will be ok (will they consider that we had 2k in cash (that sounds a bit a lot))? I do not want to mail a correction form again to the financial aid office because I already did once.

I wouldn’t be too concerned. 2K is not a lot of money. Personally, I think some of these questions are ridiculous. H’s paycheck - 2K. Mortgage payment - 2K. If you ask one day, we have 2K, the next day 0K. It’s not like we just have this money lying about in little bundles waiting to send to the college of choice.

I agree that some of these questions are too exact are changing day by day, I was just worried that when the financial aid office will look at the figures from the bank statement, they will find 2k inconsistent and invite me to write a letter of explanation. Any other opinions?

They will take you at your word and if you should be selected for verification, all of the account balances will be checked on that day, and they would just figure that they had $2K cash in a safe or elsewhere. They are not that interested in extra money that you report–just if they find any money, you did not, it is an issue.

The $2K, if over your parent’s protection allowance, adds about $100 to what they are expected to pay.
