quick question: Letters of recommendation ?s

son is applying for some local scholarships. they require written LsOR. Any problems with making copies these and using them for all the scholarships? Or will they come sealed? obviously we dont know how all this works!

Yes…there is a problem making copies. The LOR should be sent directly from the writers, or provided to the student in a sealed envelope with the writer’so signayire across the seal.

Simply put…sending copies would really enable you to “doctor” those letters.

Most places clearly state how they want the letters to be received.

thanks. one more ?
he was awarded a full-tution to our state flagship without applying for it. So we’ve done nothing so far, but theres 3 local ones he wants. 2 of the applications say nothing in particular about the LORs and formats; 1 does.

so – does he ask these people to print 3 copies? sorry to sound so confused. it’s all new.

He should ask each person writing a letter of reference to send it to each of the three scholarship applications.

You know…most folks have these LOR on their computers. They change the name where it is to be sent, and usually the date…and send it off.

The scholarship folks shoild tell you where to send the LOR. If you have a question, contact them directly.

My kids applied for a number of local scholarships. One applied to 7 colleges, and the other to 4. The folks writing their letters sent seoarate letters to each place. We provided them with stamped and addressed envelopes. Now, many places expect these to be submitted online…so check for that option as well.

OK. well, one of the references just emailed my son a letter on school letterhead. I AM SO GLAD i read it. I will save it. it’s wonderful; and its makes me feel so blessed that a teacher sees my child in this way.

It’s going in an envelope and we’ll attach it to his applications. DS is doing this in obviously a haphazard fashion; but we’ll see what happens. if there’s good news with his method of LORs i’ll update here. (these are for small $1000-2000 scholarships).

wondering if others have done LORs this way - and (besides being better prepared) how that has worked . …
