Quick question

So I filled out the FAFSA January 1st using estimates...but my parents havent gotten their tax forms done yet becaues we are still waiting on my dad's w2. a couple of my schools' priority deadlines have passed. Am I screwed or will they still take me into full consideration for grants because I had estimates done?

As much I know schools are very particular / strict about dead-lines. You could have filled-in FAFSA with last year figures adjusted to major changes in 2007 with "will file tax" option and then could rvise the numbers once your dad's w-2 was in.

One thing you could do is speak to your school's FAs and let them know of the situation and hear from them directly if they would consider your late submission.

hope that helps.

I was about to submit the above when I re-read your post - you said you had done your estimates, means did you submit a "will file" FAFSA? Then you would be fine, I think.

yes I submited the FAFSA with a will file status using the most accurate estimates I could get with my parents.

I guess many do so and colleges know that many don't get their w-2s / 1099s etc until 1st week of Feb'08. I think you are safe but best would be to call up the colleges and explain them your situation.

You are fine if you met the deadline - they expect you to use estimates. Generally you will get a financial aid offer based on the estimates. It will be revised when your information is finalized.
