Quick question!!!!

i am a texas resident. if i go to lsu (louisiana) for my undergrad degree, can i come back to ut austin (tx) to go to medical school?

Yes. You will still be considered a Tx resident. Even if you go out of state for undergrad.

@OP: UT Austin doesn’t have a medical school.

oh right its galveston huh?

^^^ They have lots of branches. UTMB-Galveston, San Antonio, Southwestern, Houston ( I think thats it, or I can’t think of the others at the top of my head.)

^Not to mention the “other” Texas med schools…A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor (private but tuition for in state is almost identical to UT schools) and the DO schools.

Incidentally, the state legislature is seriously talking about adding a Med school in Austin…in the future but it’s essentially a done deal and will happen within the next few years…they recently appropriated funds for Dallas to get a UT system Law school… next year I believe will be the start up.

^^^ Nice, hopefully UT-Austin’s medical school opens by the time I apply, more in-state schools for me… :)

Don’t get your hopes up too far, remember it will be brand new without any brand name recognition for a while…and unless it steals some really top people from other big name schools it will take a while to develop any kind of recognition and ranking. That’s not saying you won’t still graduate as an MD but it will take a little time for them to get their feet under themselves for good residency matches etc…

All in all it really is a good thing in the long run but not something to get too excited about in the short run…same thing for the new Law school which will need a while to become accredited.

I honestly don’t care about “brand name” or “recognition” right now. Reputation doesn’t matter to me. BUT what does concern me is what you said about getting good residency matches.
