Quick Questions about Stanford Application

Hey all, I'm preparing to submit my application and I just have a few quick questions to ease my mind.

1) Is it okay if my common app essay is one or two words over? It's exactly 500 without my name and a title but I'd like to include both.

2) For the short answers, is it okay if mine are a little lengthy, even if they clock in at under 300 characters? (Most of my answers are around the 200 range).

Thanks,

Best advice anyone would give is to abide by the word-limits.

Nevertheless, if every word in your essay justifies its meaning inarguably and you don’t stand a chance to limit your essay, then its okay to exceed the limit.

But be careful. Exceeding by a couple of words is very different from exceeding by a paragraph. The latter is not acceptable.

Thank you, I’ve decided to cut out a few words just to make it under that limit.

As for the second, considering I’m under the limit they say, I think my word limits will be fine.

I didn’t actually understand your second point. I know that the word-limit for short answers is 300 characters. Are you exceeding this limit? Or you used lesser number of characters to answer? Limiting your answers under the word-limit never dumps you!

Well, then you don’t have any problem if your answer is under the limits.

See to it that your short answers provide the required information. That’s what counts.

Best Luck!!!

The prompt says to respond in two lines or less, but gives me 300 characters to do it.

I am under 300 characters in all my responses, but most of the time I’ve over two lines (I answered in full sentences). Is this okay?

Check on the print preview. As long as it isn’t over two lines on there, you should be fine.

Oh no I did NOT see the two line limit. On two of the questions I have one word on the third line. Is that really bad???

Oh no I had the same problem, my responses are all under 300 characters, but most of them are 3 lines not two): Is this bad??

I think they would think us careless for not carefully reading and following the directions. But hopefully they don’t judge too harshly since we were under the character limit.

I didn’t use the two line rule since I broke down per category my favorite books, authors, movies, and musical artists. Is that okay?
