Quinnipiac University Financial Aid

Hoping someone can help me figure out what to expect from this school. My daughter was accepted to Quinnipiac’s Physician Assistant Program ( 6 yrs for Master’s/PA)… We received a merit aid award with her acceptance letter. She was awarded $23K Trustee Scholarship for Merit. My question is what might we expect for need based aid? I am a single mom making about $32K annually with no assets. I’m thinking she should get a Pell Grant but what about anything else? Trying to determine there is any hope that they will give her enough need based aid to make this dream possible. Thanks in advance for anyone with any insight.

Did you use the Net Price Calculator on Quinnipiac’s website? That’s where you should start.

Hi. I did. However I can’t figure out if the calculator is including the merit aid. There is no breakdown provided. The calculator result is out of pocket about $25K. I can’t determine if they are considering the merit aid plus a pell grant - with the balance out of pocket, as our total package. That would mean no need based aid. I was hoping for the merit aid to be on top of a good amount of need based aid as my income is quite low.

Does the NPC ask merit-based questions, like GPA, test scores and class rank? If not, there’s probably not any merit aid included in what you’re seeing.

If they don’t include merit maybe that is need, but it looks like they only meet full need for 12 pct of students getting aid. Likely there is some preferential packaging. And merit aid often reduces need, you will have to see how they handle it or maybe that is discussed on the aid page. In all, I’m afraid you are going to have to wait for the package.

According to their website, Quinnipiac requires the Profile and the non-custodial parent Profile (unless you get a waiver for the non-custodial parent form). If you didn’t get a waiver, the income from your child’s other parent will be considered as well as your own.

Also, the net price calculators are not always accurate for single parents, if they are divorced, for example.
