I'm thinking of going into Biology Major at either Quinnipiac or Clark and wanted to know the inside scoops about them. I went to the tour and absolutely loved Quinnipiac and Clark was okay but not as good as Clark. I am from Pakistan so I was told that a lot of rich white kids go to Quinnipiac and they are racist and same with the professors. I also heard that the professors are not there for help because they do not want to see their students succeed. This is a hard decision for me because if Quinnipiac's environment sucks then I would not be able to study there. I heard that people judge a lot on looks and stuff like that. I am very outgoing and act like a normal american kid but when some people hear that your from like China or India or any other country then they seem to raise a lot of stereotypes. I get along with white people but I've never accoutered racist people so I don't know how it's going to be. I am getting very picky about what school I choose because I want the right kind of environment and education. Clark is very diverse but I liked Quinnipiac a lot more. I like how Clark has cultural festivals and stuff which Quinnipiac doesn't because majority are white. Also, I heard that there are a lot of cliques and its like a highschool scene. So could anyone tell me about the school, environment, faculty, students, how food and stuff work...stuff like that about both CLark and Quinnipiac?

I can tell you that Quinnipiac doesn’t have a very good social reputation locally. The college students who are getting arrested in New Haven aren’t drunk Yale students (a few) but the majority are Qunnipiac students. The university has serious problems with students living off campus in Hamden. Ordinarily I wouldn’t say that’s the university’s problem but apparently it had made some promises about providing enough on campus housing to ease the problem and the local don’t feel it has made a significant effort.

It wouldn’t surprise that it’s a lot of rich white kids go there since it lists 61% of students taking out non-federal students loans-most school are 15% or less. They have recently had some racial issues with their basketball team. I think some of the team members were suspend because they retaliated against some students. You can find out more be looking at the New Haven Register newspaper.

Please understand this is just stuff I’ve read in the paper so there could be lots of other good stuff going on that I don’t know about. However, there are two other colleges besides Yale and Quinnipiac here and they certainly don’t seem to make the papers like Quinnipiac does.

Made a mistake, it’s not 61%, it’s only 13% for non-federal loans. Sorry, I must have been looking at the wrong number.

Quinnipiac is a lovely campus. I can see how you are taken by it. However, it pales in its academic credentials and what it can do for your potential growth when compared to Clark. Clark is more diverse, more welcoming and is featured (rightly so) in the book, Colleges That Change Lives ([Colleges That Change Lives | Changing Lives, One Student at a Time](http://ctcl.org)). The neighborhood surrounding Clark is not pretty but that is part of life. You may be considering other colleges, but if its down to those two, Clark is the right choice.
