Prothero would do well to join the clergy.

Well, we are responsible for our own choices…

Yes because calling people ridiculous and mad is an argument grounded on logic and reason. You are the perfect example of what is wrong with society today, following propaganda and acting based on your emotions instead of thinking independently and rationally.

We cannot say quitting is bad. Yes, it does has its negative consequences… but sometimes if we just cannot find any meaning to doing things, then it’s good to stop and reflect.

I never said that. Why are you agreeing with something that was never said?

I try.

Which propaganda? Whose?

All acts are based upon emotions in some way; have you ever heard of the decision making issues experienced by those with massively damaged amygdala (emotion center of the brain)?

All thought is necessarily carried out indepependently. Human beings have not evolved hive-mind capabilities. Whether a thought is unique or not, it’s level of conformity to other thoughts, etc. is another matter. It would also be incorrect to assume that a thought that mostly conforms to other lines of thought is in itself “wrong” just because it is not unique.

My ability to think rationally is uncompromised. Please point out what you mean by this statement.

We can think and decide what’s best for ourselves — I still believe that the OP is rational despite his ‘heartfelt’ words

Yes, all it takes is just time and a little push

It was said, check back 2 pages.

The media, government, and advertisements.

but you can still have a discussion without showing emotion. For instance, if I point out an observation and someone says “You are ridiculous!”, it turns into being a destructive conversation and a bickering match.

I assume one who has an independent thought has clearer thoughts less subject to bias or assumptions and generally has a better overall observational ability.

Everyone’s ability to think rationally is compromised in some way, it is to the extent you compromise that determines your level of ability.

Anyway, didn’t know why I expected to have a rational discussion on the internet LOL

I don’t see anywhere where myself or anyone else said that “calling people ridiculous and mad is an argument grounded on logic and reason.”

This has nothing to do with what you originally said. Simply saying something like “You are ridiculous!” shouldn’t make a conversation destructive unless you actually are ridiculous and unreasonable. hadsed explained why he thought you were “mad.” Then you refused to back up your assertions while focusing only on the fact that he called you mad, ostensibly because you have nothing to back up your assertions.

What does this even mean? Where do you think people should get unbiased information from? One could question whether it is even possible to form thoughts not subject to or only slightly influenced by bias or assumptions. “Observation ability” has nothing to do with thought processes. Unless you wish to clarify that point?

Then don’t tell people that not thinking rationally is wrong. Or if you do, understand that it is a pointless assertion.

OK then, I’ve “compromised very little” if it pleases you to think of rationality in this way.

Just do what you like… I know you’re able

Through all this crap… Prothero is still unable to provide any explanation as to why going to college and getting an education is detrimental to oneself and/or society.

Sithis, all I read from your holier-than-thou text is you don’t really have anything to say but are indoctrinated. It sounds like you’re attempting to have a meaningful conversation but as was the same with Hadsed are underneath more or less bickering.

Hope is all we need. :)

OP: If you really feel like you can’t do it anymore, then don’t. Take a minute to really think though. You put all that time and money in and you’re almost done. YOU CAN DO IT! Finish it out and I’m sure you’ll be glad you did. Don’t listen to these goons fighting on a college forum bahahaha Hope this helps good luckk!

Yes, wish you all the best and best of luck to you :D

I can’t believe ANTIDRAMAQUEEN is the only person other than myself to pick up on possible depression here. edit: oh and Beta_Fist.

How many times did QuittingCollege say “I don’t care anymore” - apathy and losing interest in things that previously were interesting or enjoyable are two big warning signs of depression. Longing to crawl back in the cocoon and not really do much or interact with anyone other than the baby nephew? That’s exactly what I feel like doing when I’ve had to deal with it myself.

The impression of someone who is not a professional counselor to a couple paragraphs on a website is certainly far from a qualified opinion, but, the things you have written really sound like you ought to be screened by a professional who IS qualified, to be sure you aren’t having depression, and if you are, so you can get the kind of help you need to make the right decision.

I hope you get it figured out and find the right path.

Pointing out nonsense is not “having nothing to say.” What, exactly, am I indoctrinated in? Anti-Protheroism?

I agree, attempting is all I can do when you’re on the other side of it.

What do you mean by this: “bickering?” Yes, my arguments have been destructive in nature towards your arguments rather than constructive in and of themselves; this is fine.
