Quitting High School/Getting GED for Community College?

true, gstein.

OP, are there any alternative high schools in your area? Here we have several and while they don't provide quite the highest education, they are ment for people who just can't get through regular high school, be it for social or academic reasons. Classes at these schools are sort of self-paced and it's not uncommon to see a whole years worth of work completed in just a couple months. In this way, you could pack in the classes and get all the credits you need in order to graduate as a junior. (But again, I'm not sure if any of this applies to the education system in Georgia.)

Signing up for the upcoming 'semester' is out of the question(deadling Sep9th)
...

And my mom doesn't really wanna do it anymore since she doesn't want to shell out a couple grand a year(wait til UGA hits her:P)

She wants me to do scholarships..And that's not possible with the limited timeframe..Though I'm wondering..I could go for scholarships for the Jan 2007 quarter. But I'm not a good writer-_-
Any big scholarships without writing?:D

Who is OP btw?

OP = original poster

if you do really plan to drop out, plan to work at blue collar jobs and places like mcdonalds...

I can be a Dental Hygienist or a Nurse in around 2 years in case nothing works out, $40K per year guarantee? :)But Accounting here I come:D

Hey...I think we're on the same boat...or at least we're both considering whether to get on that college boat or not...I have a 4.0+ GPA...and similar SAT score as u do...I'm gonna be a senior...but, after read so many posts in Confidential...went through some events in life......I searched and browsed through this post...actually, my regional cc doesn't reqire a GED or any proof of high school grad...a friend of mine who's in that cc now regrets going through high school senior year...wasting time.

bump.

Haha, I thought you were my counselor when this old board bumped:P Changed career plan to Xray. From the situation now, I probably won't go to community college for Winter 07 and forth. But possibly going to college(4 year) after finishing junior year.

But if I go 4 year, no xray:(

You should do it Doris, rebel and do it succesfully..Show everyone HS is not necessary:)

I don't know what state you're in, but in CA the have the California High School Proficiency Exam, which is considered the same as a high school diploma. You take it after you sophmore year and you can go on to community college from there, then apply to university as a junior...two years ahead of everyone! Who says you have to take the same path as everyone else? If you really hate high school, why waste your time unhappy?

Unfortunately, I have an uninformed Asian mother that wants me making 6 figures and all that, so yeah, kind of hard to not do high school:(

I accidentally stumbled on this thread and yes I know its old. Anyways I REGRET! not dropping out. Looking back on it I wish I did go the G.E.D route and go straight to community college. Hell it would have been a lot easier to go to the University of my choice since you are guaranteed admittance once you get your A.A.

H.S school was to much for me I understand where you are coming from. The 7am-2pm every single damn day. Having to raise your hand to use the bathroom. Being told you cannot leave campus the place was like prison.

Don't listen to people saying being a h.s dropout will ruin you. You still can become a doctor or lawyer with out it.

Oh well anyhow.. I didn't get to go to cc during Spring 07.. But I am extra loading with online classes so that I'll graduate in my junior year and go to college this upcoming Fall 2007:D

PS what is A.A.

No offense or anything, but 1700 isn't a good enough score on the PSAT to warrant going to college. And if you had to try so hard to get a 4.0 in high school, what makes you think you can do well in college?

I got a 24 on the ACT in 7th grade, does that mean I should have gone to community college instead of 8th grade?

Having said that, I'm actually going to be taking 3 or 4 college courses next year (senior), on my school's dime. If you could do that instead, that would be a much better decision. I just don't see the point of graduating early so you can go to more school.... and probably a worse school at that.

1700 is great! And my official SAT not PSAT is 1850. Ivies suck. School sucks. Woo for 4 more years of school :D

"And if you had to try so hard to get a 4.0 in high school, what makes you think you can do well in college?"
Umm.. Wow.. So only people that have it breezy in school and make good grades can do well in college?

My mom dropped out of high school at 16, then got her GED and went to a local CC. Later, she worked as a real estate agent and made alot of money doing it. Then she got tired of it and got her AA at the CC, and transferred to a state university. Now she's a special ed. teacher.

If you really hate high school so much, then maybe dropping out isn't such a bad idea. You can dropout and still become successful......

What is an AA?

Yeah.. I can always be a middle school teacher and still have money for..stuff:cool:

I'm just saying, if you have to work so hard, perhaps you need more time to grow mentally.

And why would you want to bust your ass for four years?

Maybe I'm too alien to the idea of trying to understand what you're saying...

AA = Associate of Arts degree

Well good for you if you don't study and have a 4.0. Yes I'm too alien for you, please leave this thread, kthxbai.

Is there like an AA in a certain area, or is the degree just general like that?

It depends on what you want to major in. You can work towards a general one for the time until you find a major you're interested in.

Oh, I understand... You don't actually want advice, you just want to brag.
