So I just did it. I quit my D1 swimming, do you think I made the right decision? I loved the team and the opportunity to be a student-athlete, but I wasn't passionate about swimming anymore. I didn't have the drive or the will to wake up early everyday anymore and I just didn't care that much about performing well. On the other hand I will miss being able to be a team and all the benefits athletes receive. Do you think I made the right choice?

I did something similar… I don’t regret it for a minute. As a D1 athlete, you’re expected to put your sport before anything else in college, even your own education. As far as your coach is concerned, your sport IS your education, which is what mine actually told me.

I kept in shape at the gym, and graduated Summa cum Laude.

My parents were annoyed at first, but I wasn’t on any kind of scholarship, so it was maybe a week long tizzy I had to put up with on their part.

Yeah I’m starting to feel, progressively, very happy about my decision. You have to prioritize it over anything and everything, leaving very little room for anything that I want to do. It’s fun only superficially and that the bottom line is that it’s extremely demanding in most aspects of your life. I have simply chose to pursue other interests as I move on.

I’m definitely staying in shape though. I intend to join a club team and will frequently work out like I have before.

play a club sport. I chose not to go to a small D2 school on a football scholarship so i could go my dream school. I play on the club rugby team and coudnt love it more. Its only 2 practices per week and a game on saturday so very little time commitment and it keeps me in shape and lets me keep my competitive edge. plus ive met most of my friends through the team and their parties are legendary.

Yeah I’m already looking at a few club sports.
