Quote button

WHERE IS IT?
I hate having to copy-paste messages, remember the name of who typed the message, and [ quote= blabla] sdfkjasadfs [/ quote]
Quoting exists, so why isn’t there a button like there is in every forum except this one?
I think people are annoyed when they have to go ^^^^^^ or begin with"membername" - or manually type quotation marks after copy pasting what they want to respond to

The lack of a quote button is intentional, rymd. On forums that enable quoting, one finds huge clutter because posters will quote someone else’s long post and add a short reply. Fill up a thread with those kinds of posts, and you need a power scroll button just to scan the thread.

The other negative aspect of a quote button is when it is used by one member to dissect someone else’s post and write line-by-line rebuttals. We encourage dissenting views, but those kinds of posts inevitably turn into a boring debate that may be fascinating to the participants but don’t add value to the discussion.

We know that some CC members would use a quote button in a useful and productive way, but the simplicity of the [****quote] tag ensures that sticking an occasional quote in a post doesn’t take much effort.

Thanks for the feedback, rymd!

I thought about it, and you’re right, but at least it’s easier to read those posts than to figure out which part of a person’s post is theirs and which isn’t. Why even have a quote feature when I’ve never seen anyone use the

[quote]
tag, ever, except me. I just read through a page of people who quoted using quote marks and I just couldn’t bother to determine whom people were quoting and therefore reading their posts. At least if quotes were used, sure you would have to scroll down more, but you wouldn’t have to keep scrolling up, reading each post on that page to try to match the quote to the person, and then scroll back down, which is a LOT more work.
