How competitive is it to become an RA?
Not that bad. Interviews, recommendations, group exercises comprise the hire process. Keep in mind that you will be leaving late for breaks (or not leaving at all). Hopefully you enjoy arts and crafts…lots of door decs and bulletin boards to design and put up.
This year I think they told me about 650 new RAs applied and 100 or so were selected. You go through an individual interview and then group process. It’s definitely not easy but doable. Make sure you stand out. My roommate and I both were selected, let me know if you have any more specific questions.
What helps applicants stand out? Lots of extracurriculars?
What do you get as payment? Free room or a salary?
@OspreyCV22 Discounted single room (around $700/sem) and a $4.5k stipend
I don’t think other ECs are too important. It’s all interview-based, and they’re looking for all different types of people. If you love working with people and are really excited about the prospect of being an RA, that should help you a lot.
