Race difficulties Question

Hi!
I’m wondering what you guys think of my predicament. I am tan skinned with an Afro but have green eyes, like Steph curry but a girl. I identify as White, Middle Eastern, and Black. Growing up in a small town that was only, I mean only l, white and influnced by my white dad and far more white-passing mother than me as well as you know, general society, I always checked white in the little boxes. This is definitely not to say that I do not embrace my black heritage, because I love who I am even if I feel lonely because No group has ever fully accepted me due to my appearance. I was wondering how I should go about applying to college. I am thankful we now get to check multiple boxes, but I am concerned about one thing. My mother has always checked white on their taxes because she identifies with her middle eastern rather than black side (self-hate due to stigmatizism of black by Iranians). I do not know if being multiracial in my common apps will seem contradictory to my parents reporting when colleges check tax returns(do they check?). I am aware of the advantages being an “URM” have, but the reason I ask this question is because my main essay is going to be about my tumultuous racial identity. I don’t want anyone to think I am faking my race, but I don’t want to leave out my black heritage because I have thought about it and doing so would be leaving behind an intristic piece of who I am.

Race is not reported on income tax returns.

There is a box to check race on taxes?

Check off all the boxes you identify with. I don’t think universities would (or can?) check the race on your mom’s taxes.

@SatchelSF -maybe in some state tax forms. This is not reported on federal tax forms.

@childishcatte - Check one box, check all the boxes, check none. It is entirely up to you. This question is so the colleges and universities can demonstrate to the statistics crunchers in the Dept. of Education that they aren’t discriminating against any particular group. In some cases, it can give a slight boost for admissiions, but most places don’t even factor that in at all.
