Jaddua, I just wanted to correct you and say that ** over-represented ** minorities experience racism too.

How am I contradicting myself whatsoever? And with all due respect, the smiley face was completely unnecessary and the fact that my example is being examined is completely ridiculous. :)

EDIT: ^I’m aware that they were too, but we were discussing the advantages URMs receive.

Shrinkrap, type in UVA african american scholarships. A list of merit for blacks.

Paintmuffin, every white family denied a house puts one more on the market for you. there really is no facts in what your saying.

Jaddua, I’m saying that “whites love to ***** and complain about this” is stereotyping. How is it not? Have you met even most white people. That comment is ridiculous.

[White privilege - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](White privilege - Wikipedia)

Numerous examples on that page.

You’re white. You’re complaining about this very subject because you’re white and because you feel that you should be offered the same offers extended to URMs. If you’ve read any other thread about race on this messageboard, you will notice many examples of whites “rebelling” because they aren’t being given advantages.

And it’s as if you skipped my explanation. Many white people do complain about AA. Not all do. I didn’t even say most do. I never said “all whites…” anywhere. You can’t dispute that.

Oh damn, forgive me, I forgot the key part in that post: “every black family denied a house BY A RACIST SALESPERSON”

jaddua, look at the criticism on that page. That is my stance.

Okay okay, sorry for the smiley face, just didn’t want to sound like I was attacking you because I was not… just pointing out that you were indeed stereotyping… o_o …

paintmuffin, do you know how many racist salespersons there are? Or are you pulling the race card out with no basis? I can’t take race talks seriously when every little thing is nitpicked and thought to be racism.

Just like some people think criticizing Obama makes you racist. It gets ridiculous.

"Shrinkrap, type in UVA african american scholarships. A list of merit for blacks. "

I’ll check a few out, though my son does not have the credentials to get in UVA,Black or otherwise…

I noticed Gates was listed but you have to be eligible for a Pell grant for that one. That’s what I’ve noticed when I dig deeper.

Matttt, where do you even LIVE? Racism is still a huge issue in this country. YES, THERE ARE A TON OF RACIST SALESPEOPLE.

Skrinkrap, if your looking for them, I would just type in the school name and african American. It seemed like most of the schools I applied to had them.

Did you read the rest of that page? All of the examples of white privilege that were exhibited? The criticism only disputed one case of perceived white privilege.

Paintmuffin, how do you think they are racist? Because they wouldn’t sell it to you. You don’t seem to have a basis. Yes, there are racist people but you can’t just call someone racist without some basis because he didn’t sell you a house.

^I think I speak for many people when I say that I am soooooooo sick of people claiming a disadvantage because of skin color. Although once true, I think it’s become a convenient excuse for many. It’s almost become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

amarkov, You said that “there are still places in America where being black and successful can get you physically assaulted.” Walk two blocks down from my house and you will get assaulted if you are white, yellow, brown, or black. There are idiots of all colors. Being assaulted is not a color-based phenomenon.

paintmuffin, your statment was a real eye-roller. “Every black family denied a house by a racist salesperson puts one more house on the market for you.” Maybe it’s time for you to leave 1955 and join the rest of us in 2010. By the way, salesmen don’t decide who buys and house and who doesn’t. The only color a realtor or house seller cares about is green.

I looked A LOT two years ago for my D, who had pretty good credentials. Guess she wasn’t looking at the same schools you are.

Looking for publics in Cal for my son, and a few privates. Zilch, at least without good stats!

Jerome Holland, not need based…nice!

Gates, Ron Brown…need based. Can’t tell about the rest.

I never said I was accusing SPECIFIC sales or salespeople.

FACT: There are a ton of racist people in this country.
FACT: There are a ton of salespeople in this country.

Where is the problem with this evidence?

No offense Matt, but African Americans and racial minorities are discriminated in housing. Where are you getting your information?

There are people in this country who will beat you up because you are black. Just because well-off people don’t go around beating people up doesn’t mean they aren’t racist too.
