"Race" in College Admission FAQ & Discussion 7

Yet, many people are disadvantaged because of skin color. This is indisputable. You might be sick of people complaining about it, but they’re only complaining because it is still in existence.

Why does the fact that some white people also get assaulted invalidate any part of my argument?

Look at the education one jaddua, I think that proves my point that economics are more important. The education is heavily based on the wealth of the neighborhood. Bad neighborhood, bad schools. That is not a race issue.

I think most of the “white privilige” having to do with white people being more well off than minorities. I wouldn’t call that racist. White people have more money generally speaking, so they can get the housing.

paintmuffin, its like you don’t believe that anyone besides white can be racist. There is more black on white crime than white on black, so that is a ridiculous point. If anything, that works against your argument.

“The only color a realtor or house seller cares about is green.”

This may be true. However, in some extremely racist areas, property owned by African-Americans actually goes down in value simply because the people in the neighborhood don’t want to live near them.

If you don’t think racism exists in 2010, take a two-minute look at THIS creepy forum site: http://www.stormfront.org/forum/

Matt, when it comes to the realm of education, it actually is a race issue. Do you know how those neighborhoods became “bad” and predominantly African American?

To be honest, I have felt jealous of underrepresented minorities and the scholarships/advantages in admission to schools because I am white. However, I do not believe my jealousy discredits the reasoning behind such advantages. Someone who can overcome the adversity of racism deserves a scholarship.

paintmuffin, you don’t believe racism is alive, listen to the “reverend” jesse jackson. It works both ways man

Black crime is higher than white crime, that is how many become “bad”.

Yeah, blacks can be racist. Too bad not many of them are in positions where they COULD deny white people housing even if they WANTED to.

Hence, AFFIRMATIVE ACTION.

White privilege -> black poverty -> black crime. “Bad” has little to do with it.

paintmuffin, when a people are the majority, you can expect the majority of leadership roles to be that race? that is based on demographics. why would you take away a job from that white salesperson? Do you not feel like he earned it?

White privilege is an excuse for minorities

If blacks do well in school, they have the same chances as whites

I’m going to stop posting on this because it’s clear you don’t actually have any statistics in front of you. Please, watch Tim Wise’s speech on white privilege, or go read a book or something, because there’s clearly nothing I can say to convince you out of what is now clearly just ignorance.

Matt, see, the problem with your response is that it shows how naive you are. Most neighborhoods where African Americans reside (i.e. Urban cities) used to initially be populated by whites. White flight eventually happened where whites ventured to the suburbs to live (purposely away from African Americans), and this literally destroyed the education systems in those cities; one reason why “inner city schools” have become synonymous with “African American,” “Poor,” and, to a lesser extent, “Latino.” It started out as a race issue and it still continues to be one.

Paintmuffin, you ull out the race card without any basis. That is the definition of ignorance.

whites leaving dismantled the education systems?

I think it is up to successful people from those schools to build up those inner city schools.

To anyone who is arguing from any viewpoint other than “those dark people keep taking MY stuff”, it is obvious that racism is still prevalent.

Yes, because white people tend to have more money. And the thing about education is that it doesn’t work well when there’s no money for it.
