How much does race improve someone's chance of acceptance if they have a 4.0, ok SAT scores, a lot of leadership and research projects?

I mean minority race

What race? What kind of schools? What's an OK SAT score?

African-American, Ivies (Brown, Columbia, Yale, Princeton), 2040

It will help a lot. Especially if you are low income, have a good GPA and have a way of demonstrating you're a hard worker and motivated. A 2100 would be great, but you have a fair chance with a good app and good recs.

I hope i can get a 2100...it's so frustrating though

Does anyone know to what extent colleges consider you part of a certain race? I am a very small percentage Native American, but I am a member of a state recognized Cherokee tribe. Does that make any difference?

I think it definitely would...but check it out

My ethnic background is one-half Iranian and one-half Filipino. Does this make me a minority and/or URM? I also received a score of "5" on my AP Euro Exam. In addition, I have straight A's, a 5.0 GPA and I'm ranked number 1 in my class. I got a 740 on my SATII US History and a 730 on the SATII Biology (M) exam. I am involved in my high school's varsity tennis team and actively participate in several clubs. I excell in the visual arts and I come from a low income family. However, I am worried about my SAT score of 1730 with an essay score of a 12. What are my chances of being accepted into Stanford, UC Berkeley or an Ivy Leauge institution? Thanks.

I'm really not the one to ask...but remember that SATscores aren't everything. I think that you are an URM (at least make it seem that way on apps), and you have so much going for you. I know a girl...she was white, she had some leadership positions, on varsity dance team, 1360 on the old SAT and she got into Stanford. I think you have a great chance. You must be a good writer (12 on the essay), so show it in the application essays. And you have two more chances to take the SAT, right (unless you're not taking it this saturday, then you have one chance)? Just go for it...it's not the end of the world if we don't get into the top schools. We can get a great education anywhere. Sorry, that was an incredibly long-winded way of saying: "yes, you do have a good chance."

Collegekid2006, being a minority will not help you at UC Berkeley. If you are low income, first generation to go to college, etc, it will help you. But just being a minority in itself will not help you at Berkeley.

You still have a great shot at Berkeley anyway b/c of your rank, as well as other top schools.

However, as I am sure you know, some improvement on the SAT wouldn't hurt.
