Radiography

Okay, so I have been trying to decide whether or not to change my major. I am nervous about changing. Currently a business major in my first semester of college, but I have since before college wanted to go into Radiography.. I am nervous about things. I don't mind having to deal with urine and stool, as well as other things. But I don't do well with blood or needles. But I don't want that to stop me, I am not the best at math or science. But I know I could do it. I do have a couple questions..

When do you typically start doing clinicals?

Do administer needs or IV's?

What types of Math and Science is there?

In detail, what does being a radiographer entail?

Are you looking to get a bachelor’s or an associate’s degree in radiology? To be a radiology technician you only need an associate’s degree, which could save you some time. There isn’t much with needles, and you don’t need to administer IV’s- that is an anesthesiologist’s job. You mainly administer x-rays and explain procedures to patients, there is very little actual “needles” involved in the job, so it could be a neat solution for you.

As with any major career change, I would look into shadowing a radiologist for a couple days to see if that’s really the life for you. While it is a very rewarding job, radiologist’s work 40 hour work weeks and are sometimes on call on nights/weekends.
