I received an 580 on the Math section of the SATs. I was wondering how can i improve to an 700+ within a month of prep? I need a sure in approach. I know you guys say it all depends, but in most cases there is always a solid method just have to tweak it. Anyways, I searched around the forums and came up with the idea of Putting in 40mins to an hour a day. Take a practice test, see what i dont understand and what i struggle with, and use an sat math workbook and learn and practice till i do get it. I've heard PWN the SAT math is good but i dont know how to use it. Will that book be sufficent enough to help me grasp the concepts i dont understand? Does it actually have every concept in there? If not, i was also thinking of getting another SAT Math workbook that will, any input will be appreciated thanks. Im a senior and this is my last shot so please help.

The most important thing to remember abt sat math is that its less about actually understanding the mathematical concepts and more about knowing the tricks. Try to take each problem you do, and find a way you could have done it faster. Usually ways you can use include simply plugging in the answer choices, looking at the answer choices and determining which even seem reasonable as an answer(for example, a negative number wont be the answer to a question that asks for absolute value), and graphing every function you see to try and “eyeball” what the answer is close to. Thinking in this manner could easily raise your score 100+ points with minimum effort if you just remember to look for the shortcut way to do each problem. Because in the sat, they always reward those who find the shortcuts.

thanks any others??

Every time you discover a trick from the answer solutions, write it down and make a big list.

Cut out the questions you miss and paste it into a notebook for review.

Don’t be afraid to start plugging in numbers.

In addition to the previous great posts full of useful advice, another way to study is to focus on challenging problems, if you’re very motivated and you want to do better. Some people are strong at math, and others are not. You’re better than average, and I think you can easily do well on the SAT math through practice questions and careful review, just like the others mentioned (I just wanted to second the advice.)

NO MATTER WHAT, review the solutions to problems after you answer (or don’t answer) them. Even if you’re right, you may find a better and/or quicker solution.

If you need any practice questions, feel free to ask me :)

Also, there is an SAT math help center somewhere in this forum (someone please add a link to this thread if you can find it, please!)
^ My $0.02: Just for fun, (haha, even though many don’t think SAT is fun) look around that thread for problems and see if you can solve them yourself.

GOOD LUCK!

thanks. Anyone else have any tips? i have only 2 months till my last sat.
