ok im a freshman.i have a 2.4 ish gpa.i know horrible.i pretty much just chilled the whole year.i went to a magnet school for most of the year but i left that school recnetly for a regualr school for other reasons.since ive gone to a magnet school for all of middle school and most of freshamn year,i know i can handle tough workloads so i am doing the IB diploma program.i have sophomore year to work hard in honors classes and raise my gpa before IB.but once im in IB,is it realistic to raise my gpa?ive heard it drops your gpa many times because of how rigorous it is.i dont want to like kill myself.im not a nerd i cant handle to just study every minute of my life.i just want to raise my gpa.

"im not a nerd i cant handle to just study every minute of my life.i just want to raise my gpa."

okay. . .

study every half-minute of your life

You can raise you GPA by raising your grades. It's quite simple, really. Just turn in assignments and get high grades on tests, which, yes, is possible in IB.

It really depends on the teacher, some of my IB classes are easy A's some arn't. What matters towards the IB diploma is your IA's and tests, but that doesn't affect your in class grade as much.

well i looked ac a t my report card.tunrs out that my gpa is actually 2.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!i mean i went to a magnet school that was number 23 in the nation and gpa's like that were common and everyone still graduated in the end and went to a top college since the school was so good but i left that school and now im stuck with that gpa.and big part of me leaving that school was to do IB at another school.im readyto handle IB but im worried tht i have ruined my GPA for all of high school in just freshman year.even if i work hard i know itl be tough getting it back up

I would say that you shouldn't go for the Diploma, go for the classes that are IB and that you are interested in. If you're not good at math, for example, take a class that you know is challenging enough but you would do well in. Most colleges don't even look at Diploma as a whole but look at the separate IB classes that you take, anyway.

The Diploma is too constricting anyway. Do what you know you can handle, don't bite off more than you can chew.

thank you,i understand what you mean by "dont bite off more than you can chew" but i know i can handle the work.i mean the magnet school i used to go to was no joke and towards the end of me being there (it was the middle of a grading period in whihc my grades were bad) i realized that i needed to step up and i ended up with all grades in all of ym classes 80 and above.whihc is good because i started working hard in the middle of the grading period.with this freshman gpa have i killed my gpa for all of high school and getting into a good college? i dont want to go into a harvard or yale i was thinking more of a university abroad.like mexico or canada.maybe south america or europe.did i blow it?or can i start performing well sophomore year my two IB diploma years and still impress universities?

My uncle screwed himself over freshman year, and then became valedictorian. All it requires is work ethic and drive. In IB classes you will be with motivating supportive people, so that is a plus. But you cannot allow yourself to be intimidated. You just need to set a goal to focus, and you can do it!

thank you!im glad that i havent screwed everything up.im just going to work hard and stay focused
